Kids’ Holiday Bike Giveaway Boulder Colorado

kids holiday bike giveaway boulder coloradoBOULDER—Community Cycles, a nonprofit organization that educates and advocates for the safe use of bicycles, will hold its popular Kids’ Holiday Bike Giveaway on Saturday, Dec. 20 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 4770 Table Mesa Drive. Community Cycles and 100 volunteers typically prepare 200 to 300 refurbished bikes for local kids in need. Each child will also receive a bike helmet provided by Boulder Community Health. This is the 9th year the organization has organized this event.

“We could not pull this major event off without the support of the community, our volunteer network and sponsors. For example, many of the bikes we fixed up for this event were gathered by a long-time supporter, Elevations Credit Union, which gathered almost 500 bikes and raised more than $4,600 this summer to support Community Cycles,” said Sue Prant, executive director.

Tebo Properties donated the venue and Walnut Cafe is also a major sponsor.

To receive a bike for a child two to 10 years old, a parent or guardian must present a recent report card, valid photo ID, passport or birth certificate for each child. A $35 donation is suggested per bike; however, no one will be turned away for lack of funds.

Throughout the year, Community Cycles collects kids’ bikes, which are then refurbished by volunteer mechanics in time for the annual giveaway. If you’re interested in participating in this event, here’s how you can help:

  • Volunteer. Everyone can help, regardless of bike mechanic experience. Call the shop at 720-565-6019 or complete a volunteer sign-up form at org.
  • Donate a bike. All of the bikes Community Cycles gives away are donated by the community. If you have an unused bike you would like to donate, drop it off at Community Cycles’ shop between noon and 6 p.m. any day except Monday or Wednesday.
  • Sponsor a child or family for $35 or $140, respectively. If you would like to be a sponsor, fill out the donor form or visit

Event proceeds fund Community Cycles’ advocacy and bicycle programs. For more information about this event or Community Cycles, call 720-565-6019 or visit
